Why I am here? I never intended on being here, I haven't always wanted to visit, it happened to fall into my lap. I applied for a program for Community Health in Vienna. It's my degree in school so I was interested. The program got canceled and I had already paid. I was given the option to transfer to a different program. I found this Public Health program in Armenia and applied. Once I was accepted I knew I couldn't pay for a flight overseas only for 3 weeks, so I decided on staying in Europe for longer. Now that I'm here what we're doing is very clear. There are 20 of us, mostly pharmacy students with a few others like myself mixed in. We have 2 initiatives. We are conducting research to find out just where the education level is for health care. Through a few different studies that we have to number, distribute, grade, and input, we will have a good idea of what is being taught and what is lacking. This will eventually lead to implementing better education programs. The second initiative is outreach. We are hosting health fairs throughout different regions where we will test glucose, blood pressure, give them a diabetes risk assessment, teach nutrition, bmi/workouts (my job), and giving presentations to doctors and the public. We're hosting 5 of these fairs over the next two weeks and gathering data each time. We will also be meeting the Prime Minister. On top of that we are here to explore and have fun!
